The Challenge was 8 marathons in 8 days.
I managed 6 marathons in 6 days, but sadly had to stop running under doctor's orders, due to a tibial stress fracture. The challenge is on hold - I will complete the final 52.4 miles in autumn 2015.

I hate to admit it but I've taken on this particular challenge precisely because I know it will be monumentally hard. It seems that the more hellish the experience, the more people will pity me, and the more likely they are to donate, join in, or send me cake. (For the record, I'd be delighted by all of the above in equal measure. Lemon drizzle is a favourite.)

Having run a few marathons in my time, I am very familiar with the day-after-the-marathon syndrome. Watch this video, and you will see why this challenge is going to hurt. A lot. So you can be sure that I must be doing it for a very good cause.

I will be running 8 marathons on 8 consecutive days. 210.4 miles (the last one is a bit longer, just because it wasn't quite enough as it was...). That is one marathon on fresh legs, followed by just over seven on increasingly lame donkey legs feeling like I have been run over by a bus.

Why? Lucy Guest, a friend of mine, has devoted her life to providing a high quality education to some of the poorest and most deprived children in India. Her vision and drive is turning the lives of these children around, offering them a way out of the poverty trap, whilst providing secure, fairly paid jobs for local people.

Through her charity, the Yoga Mission, Lucy's schools are changing the lives of the children of Varanasi, but there are limited resources and there are many, many more children who need help. With your help, I hope that we can raise enough money to open a kindergarten on her site, providing the basics to 3 year old children, to give them the best possible start. Read all about it here.
